WABASH HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES   

The Wabash High School Social Studies Department helps students develop a better understanding and appreciation of history, geography, economic and political systems, and civic participation. In order to prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing global society, WHS focuses on the development of skills such as problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. We strive to foster the qualities that will lead students to become independent, reflective, and ethical contributors to our democratic society.

EXTRACURRICULAR:

The WASHINGTON DC TRIP is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about our nation’s history in a firsthand manner. Gettysburg National Military Park and Museum allows students to visit one of the most historic battles in our nation’s history. Mt. Vernon explores the public and private lives of George and Martha Washington. Arlington National Cemetery represents an opportunity to witness examples of a citizen’s ultimate sacrifice and the changing of the guard. The National Mall and the Smithsonian Institution Museums present students with a variety of historical experiences. Stops also include the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the National Archives, and numerous monuments and memorials throughout Washington DC.

 

The Social Studies Department takes an active role in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl, competing against other area schools, covering various historical topics each year.
